About the role

The Expanded Learning Time (ELT) Summer ESL Teacher provides high-level instructional support to Site Coordinators, ensuring the effective delivery and development of specialized language-based summer programming for the district’s Multilingual Learners. This role is responsible for enhancing the educational experience by designing and delivering engaging ESL lessons focused on the four language domains (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) while also facilitating integrated enrichment activities.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of second language acquisition and healthy social-emotional development to support all learners.
  • Maintain a safe environment.
  • Ensure clear communication between staff, families, and the Department of Multilingual Education.
  • Serve as a vital resource for students, requiring exceptional instructional leadership, flexibility, and the ability to differentiate lessons for various proficiency levels in a fast-paced environment.
  • Align ESL lessons with students’ language proficiency levels, incorporating clear content and language objectives for all daily sessions.
  • Develop and implement tasks that specifically support growth across the four language domains: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
  • Partner with Summer Scene program staff to co-teach and facilitate hands-on enrichment activities, ensuring Multilingual Learners are fully integrated and supported.
  • Monitor student language growth and provide regular feedback to students and staff to support continuous English language acquisition.
  • Maintain daily attendance records and ensure clear, consistent communication with program leadership and the Department of Multilingual Education (DME).
  • Conduct proactive family outreach to support student attendance, engagement, and a strong home-school connection throughout the 5-week program.
  • Attend and actively participate in all compensated planning meetings and training sessions.
  • Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment that fosters a sense of belonging and safety for all Multilingual Learners.
  • Assist in documenting program incidents and maintaining a safe environment in accordance with district protocols and safety regulations.
  • Motivate and mentor students to achieve rigorous personal and academic language goals, fostering a culture of high expectations.

Requirements

  • ESL/TESOL certification or teaching license preferred.
  • Training and experience teaching elementary school-aged Multilingual Learners and a proven track record of creating interactive lessons focused on language development.
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field.

  • Relationship Building & Cultural Proficiency: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, caregivers, staff, and the community. Work with individuals and families of diverse backgrounds in an equitable, inclusive, and culturally proficient manner.
  • Professionalism, Attendance & Adaptability: Maintain regular and punctual attendance to ensure consistent department operations and district-wide support. React professionally and objectively to unpredictable situations, such as behavioral issues or environmental changes, while maintaining a proactive, reflective, and solution-focused approach.
  • Organizational Management: Work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage several projects simultaneously while maintaining strong organizational skills to balance the demands of a multi-tasking position.
  • Compliance & Confidentiality: Perform duties with awareness of district requirements, state and federal laws, and Framingham Public Schools policies. Maintain appropriate confidential records in accordance with FERPA/603 CMR 28.00.
  • Instructional Leadership: Apply knowledge of current research and theory in education. Demonstrate strong teaching, coaching, and leadership skills in a team setting.
  • Technology: Operate and acquire skills in computer software, including Google Workspace, and use instructional technology appropriately to facilitate learning.

$45.00 per hour.

Schedule

Full-time, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
