Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA)
About the role
Robert C. Scheele D.D.S. & Associates, PC is seeking a Full Time Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join their team. The position works closely with dentists and other team members to provide exceptional dental care to patients.
Responsibilities
- Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
- Taking and developing dental radiographs (x-rays)
- Taking patients' medical histories and taking blood pressure and pulse
- Serving as an infection control officer, developing infection control protocols and preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment
- Helping patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
- Providing patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures
- Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health
- Taking impressions of patients' teeth for study casts
- Communicating with patients and suppliers (e.g., scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, billing and ordering supplies)
- Helping to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and oral surgery
- Completing approved procedures validated through the Dental Board such as placement of amalgam, composite restorations, stainless steel crowns, space maintainers, etc.
- Following properly issued instructions/directions regarding patient flow and managing the flow of patients to schedule/maximize the doctor’s time if applicable
Requirements
- EFDA Certification in the state of Indiana

Monday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Thursday: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Friday: 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current EFDA certification in the state of Indiana
Skills
- Strong communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of infection control protocols
- Basic computer skills
