Essential Functions

  • Affirms patients' fitness levels and creates personalized exercise prescriptions according to physician orders, diagnostic tests, and patient objectives.
  • Supervises both group and individual exercise sessions, ensuring safety, adherence to exercise protocols, and achievement of patient-specific goals.
  • Maintains close observation of patient responses to exercise, including telemetry, oxygen saturation, and vital signs, and modifies exercise plans accordingly.
  • Provides education to patients and families on exercise techniques, health maintenance, and lifestyle modifications, covering topics like nutrition, weight management, diabetes control, and tobacco cessation.
  • Collaborates with physicians, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals to refine care plans and maintain care continuity.
  • Responds to medical emergencies in the rehabilitation setting, applying emergency care protocols as necessary.
  • Involves in discharge planning, including reassessing patients, educating them on home exercise programs, and referring them to ancillary services.
  • Demonstrates expertise in cardiac anatomy, biomechanics, pathophysiology, and risk factor modification to tailor interventions for cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation participants.
  • Maintains detailed records of patient assessments, exercise prescriptions, progress notes, and educational materials provided.
  • Contributes to the creation and execution of outpatient education classes to enhance program utilization and patient outcomes.
  • Ensures regular and reliable attendance and complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or a related field is required.
  • A Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology, Training Exercise Science, or a related Allied Health field is preferred, along with additional coursework relevant to Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.
  • One to three years of experience in cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation or a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
  • One to two years of experience in EKG and cardiac monitoring interpretation classes or similar settings is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of exercise physiology, cardiac rehabilitation, and risk factor modification.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to educate and motivate patients and their families.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and interpreting telemetry, oxygen saturation, and other physiological responses to exercise.
  • Ability to design and adjust exercise programs based on patient assessments, goals, and clinical progress.
  • Commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for patients of various fitness levels and health conditions.
  • Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple patients and responsibilities effectively.

Licenses and Certifications

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is preferred, and must be obtained within one year of employment.
  • ACSM - Clinical Exercise Specialist certification is preferred and must be obtained within one year of employment.
