Exercise Physiologist - Cardiology

About the Role

Works with cardiac and pulmonary patients in a variety of settings, encompassing a range of responsibilities in cardiac imaging and rehabilitation services. Determines exercise prescriptions on an individual basis for each patient and promotes exercise and activity aimed at assisting patients to return to pre-event levels of conditioning.

Responsibilities

• Provides fitness and lifestyle assessment.
• Develops exercise prescriptions, instructions, and ongoing re-evaluation of activity until discharge.
• May provide classroom education to patients regarding the importance of exercise and increased activity, how to monitor activity, indications, and contraindications.
• Monitors patients during exercise, assesses equipment needs, and provides recommendations to manager.
• Performs pertinent chart reviews to determine appropriate activity levels and communicates plans to other care providers.
• Recognizes the need for and makes appropriate interdisciplinary referrals.
• Documents patient's physical activity, vitals, and clinical response.
• Provides patients with self-monitoring tools as appropriate.
• May perform a variety of stress tests, including routine treadmill stress tests, nuclear stress tests, and stress echocardiography.
• May prepare studies for interpretation and assign studies to the correct physician.
• Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, including discharge planning.
• Participates in the collection of outcome data.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science.
• 2 years of experience preferred.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
• Demonstrates clinical competency based on patient's age.
• Certification may be required depending on job duties.
