Executive Director, School of Nursing
Primary Purpose/Position Summary
Responsible for providing academic leadership by setting the standards of intellectual engagement and accomplishment for Dominican University School of Nursing including graduate and undergraduate programs. Supports the strategic mission and vision to create and maintain an academic and scholarly environment that supports DU faculty and students.
Job Components/Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and implements an annual unit-operating plan that is consistent with the strategic plan of the university as a whole.
- Prepares and disseminates an annual report documenting operating plan.
- Provides leadership and expertise in program preparation for CCNE accreditation.
- Plans short term, intermediate and long-term development and improvement of the School of Nursing.
- Institutes program operating practices and procedures in order to facilitate improvements in curriculum planning, implementation, evaluation, teaching effectiveness, and program reporting.
- Provides leadership in the development, maintenance, implementation and revision of existing and new nursing and healthcare programs.
- Prepares annual reports for IDFPR and CCNE.
- Serves as the formal liaison between the BSN Program, the community at large and healthcare agencies to secure quality clinical sites.
- Collects and reviews course syllabi to ensure they are complete, consistent and compliant with University policies and guidelines, AACN Essentials, and CCNE requirements.
- Performs effectively all duties detailed in the annual performance evaluation process for faculty and staff.
- Promotes collegiate initiatives between colleges/universities and articulates the program's contributions in local, state, regional, national and international arenas of nursing and healthcare.
- Participates in securing grant/scholarship funds to support program expansion and improvement.
- Develops programmatic effectiveness with nursing faculty and staff that includes the integration of technology, including simulation and informatics.
- Recruits and hires full-time and adjunct faculty and staff.
- Participates actively in faculty development program/activities.
- Collaborates with the dean to assign faculty workload. Maintains and supports students' academic progress.
- Performs other duties as requested, delegated or assigned.
Qualifications
- Required Qualifications:
- Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Illinois.
- Strategic vision for a nursing program.
- Record of collaborative leadership.
- Excellent administrative and interpersonal skills.
- Significant experience in undergraduate and graduate nursing education and practice.
- Doctorate in nursing or a closely related field.
- Prior Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous administrative experience as a department chair, program director, or similar position.
- Experience as a faculty member or administrator within a CCNE program.
- Experience with CCNE accreditation standards and processes.
- Experience with HSIs or minority serving institutions.
- Experience with the implementation and management of assessment and assurance of learning processes.
- High level of proficiency with data analysis, presentation, and communication.
- Familiarity with academic management including course scheduling, academic policy implementation, and admissions processes.
- Familiarity with norms and expectations for academic scholarship and publication processes within nursing disciplines.
- Deep commitment to support and advocate for faculty colleagues.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a complex organizational environment.
