Executive Director, Foundation (Tyger River Campus)
Job Responsibilities
Spartanburg Community College (SCC) seeks a dynamic, visionary, and results-driven Executive Director of the SCC Foundation to lead a modern advancement enterprise focused on major gifts, capital investment, and workforce-aligned philanthropy. The Executive Director serves as the College’s chief fundraising strategist and external ambassador, responsible for building transformative partnerships that advance SCC’s mission—particularly in workforce development, economic mobility, and regional prosperity.
Immediate Objectives
- Expand philanthropic impact
- Elevate community visibility
- Align funding strategies with high-demand workforce programs, facilities, and innovation
- Support the ongoing needs of the students and the Foundation
Strategic Fundraising & Capital Development
- Lead and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy with emphasis on major gifts, capital campaigns, and endowment growth
- Design and implement campaigns aligned with workforce development priorities, including new programs, workforce training facilities, and innovation initiatives
- Build a robust major gifts pipeline, personally cultivating and soliciting high-capacity donors, corporate partners, and foundations
- Expand unrestricted and flexible funding to address emerging institutional needs
- Implement best practices across the full donor lifecycle: qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Workforce Development & Industry Partnerships
- Serve as a key connector between SCC and the regional business and industry community, aligning philanthropy with workforce needs
- Develop and steward strategic partnerships with employers, industry leaders, and economic development organizations
- Secure funding for high-demand workforce programs, apprenticeships, credentials, and career pathways
- Collaborate with college leadership to position SCC as a leading workforce development engine in the region
Community, Government & Corporate Engagement
- Represent the Foundation and College as a visible, influential leader in the community
- Build relationships with business leaders, government officials, alumni, and philanthropic organizations
- Increase SCC’s regional and statewide visibility through strategic outreach, partnerships, and storytelling
- Identify and pursue public-private partnerships and grant opportunities
Board Relations & Governance
- Serve as primary liaison to the SCC Foundation Board of Directors, supporting strong governance and strategic alignment
- Engage board members as active partners in fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement
- Serve as a member of the Foundation Board of Directors
- Support board development, recruitment, and ongoing engagement
Organizational Leadership & Operations
- Provide leadership for all Foundation operations, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and measurable impact
- Oversee budgeting, financial stewardship, and compliance, ensuring proper management of Foundation assets, endowments, and funds
- Utilize data, technology, and analytics to drive fundraising performance and decision-making
- Recruit, develop, and mentor Foundation staff
Advancement, Marketing & Impact Communication
- Champion modern advancement practices, including donor engagement, communications, and stewardship
- Clearly articulate the impact of philanthropy—especially in student success and workforce outcomes
- Strengthen The Foundation’s Role In Supporting Scholarships and emergency assistance
- Workforce and academic program expansion
- Strategic capital and facility investments
Minimum And Additional Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree and proven experience in major gift/development, donor relations, sales, or a combination of education and experience, from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been acquired may be substituted
- Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree (business, public administration, nonprofit management, or related); 8+ years of leadership experience in advancement, foundation management, or similar setting; Experience leading capital campaigns or large-scale fundraising initiatives; Background in workforce development, higher education, or economic development partnerships; Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) credential highly preferred
