Live What You Will Do
The Commercial Decision Sciences team at Amgen serves as a key partner to the Commercial organization by ensuring data-driven insights and recommendations around promotional investments and strategies are provided to the organization to drive actionable insights.
As the Executive Director of Commercial Decision Sciences, you will lead a team of Senior Directors and oversee a total team size of over 20 U.S.-based individuals with indirect oversight of an additional 50 individuals located in Portugal and India.
- Lead a critical function within the Commercial organization, delivering advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI-powered modeling to optimize promotional spend and enable effective omnichannel orchestration across the brand lifecycle.
- Operate with significant autonomy, partnering closely with senior marketing, brand, sales, and finance leaders to ensure that analytics insights directly inform commercial strategy and in-line optimization for our priority brands.
- Translate complex analytical outputs into clear, actionable recommendations that guide investment trade-offs, scenario planning, and performance management across brands and channels.
- Establish and lead a high-performing Decision Sciences team, building scalable capabilities in omnichannel measurement, promotional effectiveness, and optimization.
- Help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of commercial investments while supporting consistent, compliant, and patient- and HCP-centric engagement.
- Drive the adoption of advanced analytics into routine decision-making, elevate analytical rigor across the organization, and contribute meaningfully to the success of product launches, sustained in-line growth, and long-term commercial performance.
- Collaborate closely with leaders from market research, analytics, competitive intelligence, field excellence, and other relevant areas to leverage their insights and expertise in developing comprehensive strategies and plans.
Basic Qualifications
- Doctorate degree & 6 years of decision science experience OR Master’s degree & 10 years of decision science experience OR Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of decision science experience AND 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership in building and developing high-performing teams, with a focus on fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Ability to quickly establish credibility with and influence senior executives at the SVP/VP level, effectively communicating complex concepts and insights to drive strategic decision-making
- Alignment with best practices and a commitment to championing new and innovative methodologies and tools to enhance data strategies and solutions to drive business outcomes
- Business acumen with a deep understanding of the context and dynamics of pharmaceutical markets, particularly within relevant disease areas, allowing for informed decision-making and strategic planning
- Experience partnering closely with business leaders to deliver high-quality predictions and insights that guide strategic initiatives, optimize resource allocation, and maximize commercial success
- Oral, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts and controversial findings clearly and compellingly to diverse audiences, including senior management and cross-functional stakeholders
- Project management experience (planning, prioritization, objective setting, meeting management, and plan execution)
