The role is on-site in Eureka, CA. This is a full-time, permanent position. The Executive Director will provide executive leadership to the organization and its staff under the broad policy supervision of the Board of Directors. This individual will be responsible for effectively managing the organization to achieve strategic goals and objectives while ensuring compliance with contractual, grant, and funding obligations. The Executive Director will lead the implementation of policies and programs focused on increasing support from private and public sectors, securing supplemental funding for new and innovative services, advancing advocacy efforts, and carrying out the organization’s mission and vision. Our Ideal Candidate:Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred2+ years of experience serving as Executive Director for a community-based nonprofit requiredExperience managing a Community Action Agency a plusStrong critical thinking skills, creative problem-solving and mediation skillsAbility to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, experiences and perspectives How You Will Spend Your Day:Executive Leadership & Organizational ManagementProvide executive leadership to the organization and its staff under the broad policy supervision of the Board of Directors.Be responsible to the Board of Directors for effectively managing the organization and achieving the Agency’s goals and objectives, while satisfying contractual and grantee obligations.Carry out policies and programs that focus on increased support from private and public sectors, securing supplemental funding for new and innovative services, seeking institutional changes through advocacy, and advancing the Agency’s mission and vision.Oversee the day-to-day management and operations of the Agency by directing the activities of staff through Division Directors and Managers.Develop goals, objectives, operating policies, and long-range planning capabilities to guide the organization.Ensure that internal programs are effectively coordinated and administered, and that they complement and are appropriately linked with other social service agencies within the community. Board Partnership & GovernanceEnsure staff execution of policy decisions made by the Board of Directors.Provide administrative and technical assistance to the Board and its Committees.Serve as the primary communication line between the Board and staff.Identify the need for action by the Board to develop or revise appropriate policies and assist the Board in interpreting policies, directives, and instructions from State and Federal funding resources. Staff Leadership & DevelopmentAuthorize employment decisions, including hiring, termination, suspension, transfer, promotion, and changes in compensation for staff.Through supervision of and a close working relationship with Division Directors and Managers, provide overall policy guidance and coordination of the operational arm of the Agency.Directly supervise and evaluate Agency Directors.Conduct annual performance evaluations for all staff reporting to the Executive Director.Provide executive leadership, motivation, training, supervision, delegation, and follow-up to staff. Program Oversight, Funding and ComplianceReview the preparation of program proposals, conduct regular program evaluations, and develop recommendations for changes to ongoing programs.Review negotiations of contracts with delegate agencies and other outside agencies and present proposed contracts to the Board for approval.Represent the Agency in its relationships with Federal, State, and local funding sources.Seek opportunities within these funding sources for new and innovative programs through state-wide and local committees, task forces, and other community partnerships.Oversee fiscal administration and information systems to ensure responsible and reliable information is maintained and reported to the Board regarding discrepancies or areas of concern. Community Relations and External EngagementEstablish and maintain relationships with civic and social organizations within the community and communicate Agency activities and objectives.Establish community support for the objectives of the Agency.Represent the Agency, its divisions, and programs to the media and serve as the principal spokesperson.Build and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with agency staff, personnel of other agencies, funding source representatives, businesses, community partners, and individuals contacted in the course of work. Additional ResponsibilitiesAttend local, state, and national meetings and conferences as appropriate.Assume leadership roles at relevant conferences and community events.Travel as needed to fulfill organizational responsibilities.Support additional priorities as assigned by the Board of Directors.
