Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The School of Data and Information Sciences (SDIS) was founded in 2026 by combining the School of Information and Library Science (1931) and the School of Data Science and Society (2022). SDIS integrates long-standing excellence in information and library science with leadership in data science, including computational and statistical methods, and societal applications. It houses a top-ranked library and information science program, renowned for strong teaching, research, and service, and includes the Carolina Health Informatics Program (CHIP) and the Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life (CITAP). SDIS educates and trains undergraduate and graduate students in data science, health informatics, information science, and library science, and offers certificates for adult learners. The school conducts research and scholarship across the data and information lifecycle, emphasizing human-centric, ethical, and applied approaches. SDIS faculty tackle community and global challenges through data, information, and AI literacy.

Position Summary

Hybrid: This position may offer a partially remote work arrangement, subject to System Office policy. UNC-Chapel Hill employees must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. The Executive Assistant (EA) supports the three Vice Deans in SDIS. The EA provides high-level calendar and operational support, manages project administrative functions, and ensures accuracy and timely completion of assignments, requests, and commitments. The EA also handles email communications for at least two Vice Deans, coordinates with other School leaders, and acts as a liaison between executives and University leaders. The EA must work collaboratively with the team and provide informational support.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience
  • Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience

Management Preferences

  • Experience in an administrative/executive support role in a higher education environment
  • Experience supporting multiple executives/leaders
  • Effective and open communicator
  • Ability to represent the executive(s) in a professional and welcoming manner
