Excise Tax-Manager
About the role
The opportunity is to join EY’s EDGE practice as a Tax-Manager supporting excise tax compliance and advisory projects for clients in various industries. This role involves preparing quality, practical approaches to client's tax situations, arriving at appropriate conclusions, and developing recommendations and implementation plans.
Responsibilities
- Support your team in developing and delivering quality tax planning approaches with timely and responsive services and work products that meet and/or exceed client expectations.
- Aid in identifying and engaging clients in opportunities for excise tax compliance, planning, and other special services.
- Collaborate with clients and colleagues to analyze tax issues, determine alternative methods of problem-solving, and arrive at recommendations.
- Analyze current data and benchmark historical data for compliance and tax calculation purposes and make recommendations to team on issues and other matters impacting the business.
- Lead and coach team members in managing engagement lifecycle and engagement economics for the practice.
- Apply independent and objective decision making related to tasks performed.
- Decide when to ask questions or proceed further with the task at hand.
Requirements
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree (Accounting, Business, Finance or equivalent degree preferred) with a minimum of 5+ years of experience in a professional services or tax services organization.
Qualifications
- Excellent organizational and verbal/written communications skills.
- Effective time management skills.
- Ability to work in fast-paced professional services environment.
- Strong research skills, ability to navigate Westlaw, CCH, RIA, etc.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of excise tax concepts.
- Computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Pay
The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $91,700 to $168,100. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $110,100 to $191,000.
Schedule
In our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model, most people in external, client-serving roles work together in person 60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project, or year. You'll also be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
