About the role
As the Excess Workers’ Compensation Senior Regional Underwriting Manager, you will drive profitable growth within an assigned territory while serving as a trusted partner to brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders. You will leverage your expertise in excess workers’ compensation underwriting to evaluate complex risks, develop strategic underwriting solutions, and strengthen agency relationships. This role balances technical underwriting excellence with business development and relationship management.
You will collaborate with Business Development, Claims, Actuarial, Legal, and other underwriting teams to deliver customized solutions, manage regional strategies, and expand market presence. Additionally, you will mentor less experienced underwriters and contribute to underwriting initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate complex risks and develop strategic underwriting solutions for large workers’ compensation accounts.
- Serve as the face of Safety National in your territory, managing broker and client relationships.
- Coordinate with facultative reinsurance, actuarial, legal, claims, and business development partners.
- Develop and execute territorial strategies to drive profitable growth.
- Mentor less experienced underwriters and provide guidance on underwriting decisions.
- Participate in underwriting strategy development and departmental initiatives.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, seminars, and client events.
- Collaborate across functions to deliver enterprise-wide solutions.
- Protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information and technology assets.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent underwriting experience.
- 10+ years of experience underwriting large workers’ compensation accounts.
- Strong knowledge of regional insurance markets, brokers, and customer relationships.
- Ability to analyze complex risks, evaluate loss trends, and determine pricing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 40% of the time.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Hybrid work schedule: minimum of 3 days per week in the Burbank, CA office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with General Liability or Commercial Auto underwriting.
- Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Insurance, Accounting, Finance, or Marketing.
- CPCU or other professional insurance designation.
- Experience developing underwriting procedures and improving processes.
- Experience collaborating across underwriting, claims, legal, and business development functions.

Pay
The target base salary range for this position is $133,975 to $242,500. Compensation will consider the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location.
Schedule
Hybrid work schedule requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in the Burbank, CA office.
