Position Summary

In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Detroit Public Schools Community District, the following vacancy is announced: The ESE Teacher of Early Intervention (Birth to 3) will manage an Early On caseload. They will follow up on referral requests to determine eligibility for Early On and/or Michigan Mandatory Special Education (MMSE).

Duties

  • Conducting monitoring and maintaining compliance by completing timely evaluations, timely completion of Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) and related documentation.
  • Providing timely services by way of in-home intervention services and coordinate services for eligible infants and toddlers and their families.
  • Managing a caseload of Early On and Michigan Mandatory Special Education eligible students.
  • Direct coaching with parents to provide meaningful feedback to support whole child development through daily routines.
  • Submitting thorough and concise written reports in a timely manner in preparation for an IFSP.
  • Supporting families by connecting them to other services in the community based upon need.
  • Working to identify children, ages 0-3, who may be eligible for Early On and/or MMSE.
  • Providing/coordination all services listed on the IFSP within 30 calendar days of parental consent in the child’s natural environment (home or community).
  • Participating in co-visits with other staff to learn from and/or support staff and family’s needs.
  • Completing timely IFSP transition conference and meeting to determine eligibility for Part B services.
  • Informing parents of family rights and procedural safeguards.
  • Developing and maintaining accurate and up to date paperwork (IFSP, Childhood Outcomes Summary, attendance, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or an equivalent agency.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization (T2EA), with an endorsement in Special Education and Early Childhood (ZA or ZS).
