About the role

The Exceptional Children’s Instructional Coach (Teacher) at Northeast Academy for Aerospace & Advanced Technologies supports students with exceptional needs, focusing on developing soft skills, utilizing technology, and implementing Individualized Education Program (IEP) plans.

Responsibilities

  • Lead students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Utilize technology to facilitate instruction and enhance student learning
  • Employ various assessment tools and strategies to measure student progress towards learning goals
  • Select and implement different instructional resources and methods to meet students' diverse needs
  • Promote high expectations and the skills needed for success beyond high school
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs
  • Develop and support the implementation of IEPs for students with disabilities, using diagnostic information to update IEPs as needed
  • Adapt or develop teaching methods to meet the student’s academic, behavioral, and socioemotional needs
  • Provide and submit accurate data and reports as needed to ensure program compliance and student progress
  • Demonstrate personal commitment to professional growth through participation in professional learning activities
  • Contribute as a member of a high-performing team
  • Perform other duties as assigned and necessary to fulfill the day-to-day needs of the school

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student success
  • Intrinsically motivated and dedicated to continuous professional and personal growth
  • Ability to effectively engage parents and community in the learning process
  • Represent the school positively in the community
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Understanding of building positive working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Ability to leverage technologies to maximize efficiency and effectiveness
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Knowledge of PowerSchool and CECAS; knowledge of CANVAS preferred
  • Considerable knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies and procedures regarding exceptional children
  • Considerable knowledge of ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations
  • Considerable knowledge of current literature, trends, and developments in the field of exceptional children education and federal programs
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and develop meaningful reports from that information
  • Current NC Professional Educator’s License containing one or more areas of special education
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a concentration in education or related field. Master’s degree preferred
  • At least 1 year experience teaching students with special needs
  • Possession of a valid NC driver’s license
