Responsibilities
- Clean and service building and patient care areas according to established procedures and schedule, following an 8-step cleaning procedure or other appropriate methods.
- Perform daily cleaning tasks including:
- Cleaning occupied and discharged patient rooms.
- Washing walls, doors/door frames, ceilings, and patient room furnishings.
- Cleaning windows and refinishing/burnishing floors as required.
- Dusting, damp mopping, and vacuuming floor areas, including carpets and spot-cleaning.
- Collecting waste from all hospital areas and routinely cleaning waste receptacles.
- Cleaning compactor areas.
- Collecting soiled linen and distributing clean linen.
- Moving and arranging furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion after cleaning.
- Request and manage cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring unused supplies are returned to the housekeeping closet and carts/equipment are cleaned and stored orderly.
- Operate various types of cleaning equipment, both mechanical and electrical (e.g., buffers, wringers, scrubbers, vacuums).
- Report broken furniture or equipment repair needs to supervisors immediately.
- Maintain secured access to designated medication storage areas and alert nursing/clinical supervisors if medications are found in unlocked or unsupervised areas.
- Provide training for new hires and others on unit standards.
- Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards as outlined in performance evaluations.
- Adhere to compliance requirements in the Employee Handbook and DCH Behavioral Standards, fostering positive relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and colleagues.
- Perform essential job functions safely to ensure the well-being of patients, visitors, and employees.
- Identify and reduce unsafe practices to minimize risks and hazards.
- Use electronic systems including email, time and attendance software, learning management software, and intranet.
- Adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to follow and understand verbal communications and written procedures.
- Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
Working Conditions
Light work involving lifting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10–20 lbs. Requires:
- Walking, standing, climbing ladders, pushing, and pulling.
- Manual dexterity, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
- Exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals, and hazardous materials.
- Wearing common protective or safety equipment.
- Ability to speak clearly and reason/express ideas to groups.
- Physical presence onsite is essential.
Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range. Able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
