EVS Specialist (Housekeeper)- Northport Medical Center

Responsibilities

• Daily clean assigned areas following an 8-step cleaning procedure or other appropriate procedures.
• Clean occupied and discharged patient rooms, including washing walls, doors/door frames, ceilings, patient room furnishings, and windows.
• Refinish and burnish floors as required.
• Dust, damp mop, and vacuum floor areas; vacuum carpets and spot-clean as needed.
• Collect waste from all areas of the hospital and routinely clean waste receptacles.
• Maintain and clean compactor areas.
• Collect soiled linen and distribute clean linen.
• Move and arrange furniture within the facility in an orderly fashion after cleaning assigned areas.
• Request cleaning supplies and equipment as needed; return unused supplies to the housekeeping closet.
• Clean carts and equipment, ensuring all items are replaced in an orderly manner.
• Operate various types of cleaning equipment, both mechanical and electrical (e.g., buffers, wringers, scrubbers, vacuums).
• Report broken furniture or equipment repair needs immediately to supervisors.
• Clean and service medication storage areas according to established procedures.
• Maintain secured access to designated medication storage areas and alert nursing/clinical supervisors if medications are found in unlocked, unsupervised areas.
• Provide training for new hires and others on unit standards.
• Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards as outlined in performance evaluations.
• Adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
• Use electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and intranet.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to follow and understand verbal communications and written procedures.
• Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

Work Context & Physical Factors

• Light work: lifting 20 lbs. occasionally, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10–20 lbs.
• Requires walking, standing, climbing ladders, pushing, and pulling.
• Manual dexterity; ability to move the hand easily and skillfully.
• Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
• Exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals, and hazardous materials.
