EVS SHIFT SUPERVISOR

About the Role

Assists the EVS management with the operation and administration of the EVS department and personnel. This position directly supervises EVS I, EVS Floor Technicians, and EVS Night Cleaners, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a working supervisor engaged in all aspects of the EVS Department and is able to work any shift.
• Evaluates employee work to ensure timely performance and adequate quantity and quality, with authority to accept, amend, or reject work.
• Prepares and issues employee evaluations.
• Plans day-to-day activities and special tasks for employees, prescribing deadlines and work sequences.
• Makes minor adjustments to procedures and sequences to accomplish work effectively and efficiently.
• Ensures personnel, materials, and equipment are available at the work site.
• Trains EVS personnel, including new employees, in routine cleaning procedures, approved methods, and safety precautions.
• Distributes work among employees, assigning tasks and providing instruction through explanation and demonstration.
• Reviews work in progress and assists when problems arise.
• Tentatively approves PTO for short periods (1 to 2 days).
• Recommends and trains potential leads for each shift.
• Ensures a high standard of cleanliness is maintained according to management standards.
• Maintains employee work schedules.
• Ensures soiled linen is removed and properly stored after each shift.
• Informs EVS manager of equipment repairs and replacement needs.
• Prepares supply lists for weekly and daily use.
• Conducts continual safety programs to educate employees on hazards to themselves and customers.
• Posts visible signs in areas sealed off during cleaning.
• Reports slips, trips, or falls to Security.
• Conducts experiments and comparative tests with various cleaning agents and methods.
• Re-evaluates procedures and techniques as new innovations are introduced.
• Enforces all applicable regulations under the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 31, Chapter X, including observing and reporting suspicious activity.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of Title 31/Anti-Money Laundering regulations through annual training.

Requirements

For Shift Supervisor:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience.

For Relief Shift Supervisor:

• Minimum 6 months to one year of Housekeeping or EVS work experience.
• Good working knowledge of overall EVS operations.

Note: Candidates lacking a High School Diploma or GED will not be eligible for full-time Shift Supervisor status until the education criteria is met.

Skills

• Basic PC skills preferred.
• Good working knowledge of overall EVS operations.
• Able to work harmoniously with co-workers and be a team player.
• Able to work at a fast pace and in stressful situations.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Knowledge of multiple languages is a plus.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand for prolonged periods, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
• Must be physically able to ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs during a shift.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, secondary smoke, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
