EVS Associate - Jefferson Torresdale (PT, Evenings)
About the Role
The Environmental Services (EVS) Associate aids in maintaining a high quality standard of housekeeping, performing cleaning functions in assigned areas while following schedules and specific methods to provide patients, visitors, and staff with a sanitary, orderly, and safe patient care environment. EVS Associates contribute to the prevention of cross contamination, controlling bacteria and odor, and sustaining acceptable aseptic conditions. They may assist with moves, recycling, delivery of supplies, and the removal of trash and biohazard waste.
Responsibilities
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Establishes and maintains a clean, sanitary, and safe environment in assigned work areas by following departmental policies and procedures (20%).
- Proper disposal of biohazards according to EPA and OSHA codes and regulations. Handles disposal of environmental contaminants such as batteries, mercury thermometers, and needles. Keeps biohazard food and loading areas safe and clean of debris (20%).
- Maintains equipment, clean carts, buckets, floor machines, and supply closets to give the hospital a professional appearance (20%).
- Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements for protection against exposure to blood, infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances (5%).
- Follows hospital/departmental policy on hand hygiene (5%).
- Completes and maintains all carpet and hard surface flooring in accordance with departmental procedures (10%).
- Observes safety precautions when pushing equipment. Reports faulty mechanical, structural, or electrical problems in accordance with safety policy to create a safe environment (5%).
- Utilizes wet floor signs to prevent slippage by patients, employees, and visitors in compliance with safety policy (5%).
- Converses with patients and visitors using scripting to establish dialogue and extend courtesy. Demonstrates high standards of conduct in the work environment (5%).
- Assists with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, recycling, and set-ups as requested by supervisors or staff (5%).
- Responds to pages or phone calls in a timely fashion.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or equivalent preferred.
- 6 months to 1 year of experience in housekeeping or cleaning in a healthcare environment preferred but not required.
- Rotating weekends and holidays required.
