EVS Associate - Jefferson Torresdale (FT, Evenings)
About the Role
The Environmental Services (EVS) Associate aids in maintaining a high quality standard of housekeeping, ensuring a sanitary, orderly, and safe patient care environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This role contributes to the prevention of cross-contamination, bacteria control, odor management, and the maintenance of aseptic conditions. Associates may also assist with moves, recycling, supply delivery, and the removal of trash and biohazard waste.
Responsibilities
- Interact with co-workers, visitors, and staff in alignment with Jefferson’s values.
- Establish and maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment in assigned work areas by following departmental policies and procedures (20%).
- Properly dispose of biohazards according to EPA and OSHA codes and regulations, including handling environmental contaminants such as batteries, mercury thermometers, and needles. Ensure the biohazard food and loading area remains clean and free of debris (20%).
- Maintain equipment, clean carts, buckets, floor machines, and supply closets to uphold a professional hospital appearance (20%).
- Comply with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements for protection against bloodborne pathogens, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances (5%).
- Follow hospital and departmental hand hygiene policies (5%).
- Complete and maintain carpet and hard surface flooring in accordance with departmental procedures (10%).
- Observe safety precautions when operating equipment and report faulty mechanical, structural, or electrical issues to maintain a safe environment (5%).
- Use wet floor signs to prevent slips and falls by patients, employees, and visitors, ensuring compliance with safety policies (5%).
- Engage with patients and visitors using scripting to provide courteous and professional interactions, reflecting Jefferson’s high standards of conduct (5%).
- Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, recycling, and set-ups as requested by supervisors or staff (5%).
- Respond to pages or phone calls in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 6 months to 1 year of experience in housekeeping or cleaning in a healthcare environment preferred but not required.
- Must be available for rotating weekends and holidays.
