About the role

The EVS Associate – 40 hr/wk – 1st Shift 7a-3:30p position at Bronson South Haven is under the supervision of the environmental services manager. The role involves maintaining environmental and infection control standards within established policies and procedures of the health care facility. Duties include cleaning patient rooms, public areas, surgical areas, and additional areas as assigned, stocking supplies, and cleaning and maintaining equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain environmental and infection control standards within established policies and procedures of the health care facility.
  • Cleaning of patient rooms, occupied and unoccupied, public areas, surgical areas as well as additional areas as assigned.
  • Stocking of supplies.
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment.
  • Service to both internal and external customers.
  • Follow standard practices and procedures that comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Receive working instructions and work is frequently audited for accuracy and compliance with standards of quality.
  • Communicate (verbally and in writing) in English (at or above the 8th grade level) with departmental staff and internal and external customers.
  • Communicate and provide exceptional service to patients, staff, families and visitors.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and unit data per HIPPA regulations.
  • Remove trash and soiled linen from assigned areas and transport to disposal area.
  • Keep work areas neat and orderly, clean equipment and assist with other duties as assigned.
  • Operate mechanical floor equipment such as IMops, vacuums, sweepers and other related environmental equipment.
  • Clean equipment and store in assigned locations.
  • Direct visitors as necessary.
  • May collect trays from patient rooms.
  • Coordinate activities related to cleaning area with department coordinator as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for own growth and development; attend regular staff meetings.
  • Operate ultraviolet (UV) disinfection equipment (Surfacide UV Robot).
  • (BBC Only) Collect, label and organize all Biomedical Waste for pick up by the waste hauler.
  • (BBC Only) Collect, transport and take all recycling to compactor or comingle dumpster.
  • (BBC Only) Transport waste to appropriate compactor or outside dumpster as needed.
  • (BBC Only) Change privacy curtains where needed.
  • (BBC Only) Round, inspect and maintain all assigned areas within scope of facility.
  • (BBC Only) Proper use of and maintenance of all assigned floor care machinery.

Requirements

  • Michigan driver's license and insurability may be required.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Able to communicate (verbally and in writing) in English (at or above the 8th grade level) with departmental staff and internal and external customers.
  • Able to communicate effectively with patients, staff, families and visitors.
  • Able to exhibit excellent customer service skills, thoroughness and time management skills.
  • Able to accept delegation and negotiate task priorities.
  • Able to work while standing, sitting, and/or walking.
  • Able to lift and/or push supplies and equipment.
  • Able to reach, stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch to perform many job duties.
  • Able to work on a stepladder at a height of four feet.
  • Able to work in confined spaces and occupied areas.
  • Able to handle emergency or crisis situations.
  • Able to keep work areas neat and orderly, clean equipment and assist with other duties as assigned.
  • Able to operate mechanical floor equipment such as IMops, vacuums, sweepers and other related environmental equipment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is no longer required for this position.
  • Ability to work independently.
