About the role
Bergen New Bridge Medical Center is seeking an EVS Aide I to join our team. We are dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care to our diverse community.
Responsibilities
- Carries out all duties required to maintain optimum levels of cleanliness and disinfection in the patient care, ancillary, and public areas of the hospital.
- Completes responsibilities as assigned or directed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Follows the 5-Step Cleaning process and other Departmental processes to perform tasks such as dust mopping, damp mopping, reconditioning floors, spot washing, cleaning patient rooms, dusting furniture, washing and polishing wooden and metal furniture, disposing of rubbish, and cleaning restrooms.
- Operates cleaning equipment and supplies for various cleaning or buffing jobs.
- Moves heavy objects such as beds, desks, and copy machines for cleaning purposes.
- Identifies and disposes of medical waste from regular waste according to hospital regulations.
- Performs hand hygiene before and after transporting patients.
- Wears a laboratory coat during patient transport.
- Escorts patients within the Medical Center to and from patient units using appropriate means of transportation.
- Assists Nursing with patient lifting when requested.
- Transports deceased patients or residents to the morgue.
- Maintains records of assignments, including descriptions of person/items, times of pick-up and delivery, and obtaining appropriate signatures as required.
- Ensures the safety and comfort of patients (e.g., fastening safety straps on wheelchairs and beds, checking IV poles and bags).
- Keeps equipment clean and in good repair.
- Participates in mandatory educational and in-service programs.
- Performs customer service duties including respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, helpfulness, pleasant attitude, and patience.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
- Familiarizes with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
- Maintains Heart Saver Certification and performs lifesaving skills.
Qualifications
- Housekeeping experience a plus but not required.
- Minimum of 1 year previous patient care experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalency.
- Must possess and maintain Heart Saver Certification.
- Speaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the position.

Pay
Salary commensurate with experience within posted range $19.00 per hour with differential of $1.15 for evening and weekend shifts.
Schedule
All areas of the Medical Center. Extremely heavy physical effort (lifting/carrying 50 lbs. or more). Frequent prolonged standing/walking. Pushes/pulls or moves/heavy equipment/supplies. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and/or crouching. Manual dexterity and mobility. Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients.
