Responsibilities

  • Carry out all duties required to maintain optimum levels of cleanliness and disinfection in patient care, ancillary, and public areas of the hospital, including resident/patient rooms, bathrooms, nursing stations, ancillary rooms, lounges, waiting areas, public restrooms, and examination rooms.
  • Follow the 5-Step Cleaning process and other departmental processes to perform duties such as:
    • Dust mopping all floors and damp mopping spillage
    • Reconditioning floors
    • Spot washing walls
    • Complete cleaning of patient rooms (beds, venetian blinds, furniture, etc.)
    • Dusting and polishing wooden and metal furniture
    • Disposing of rubbish properly
    • Cleaning restrooms (toilets, mirrors, counter tops, sinks) and restocking supplies
  • Operate all cleaning equipment and supplies used by the department for various cleaning or buffing jobs.
  • Move heavy objects such as beds, desks, and copy machines for cleaning purposes.
  • Identify and dispose of medical waste following hospital regulations.
  • Perform hand hygiene before and after patient transport; wear a provided laboratory coat during transport.
  • Escort patients within the Medical Center using appropriate means of transportation (e.g., wheelchair, bed, stretcher).
  • Assist Nursing with lifting patients when requested.
  • Transport deceased patients or residents to the morgue.
  • Maintain records of assignments, including description of person/item, time of pick-up and delivery, and obtaining appropriate signatures.
  • Ensure safety and comfort of patients (e.g., fasten safety straps, check IV poles and bags, provide proper covers).
  • Keep equipment (e.g., stretchers, wheelchairs) clean and in good repair.
  • Participate in mandatory educational and in-service programs.
  • Demonstrate customer service excellence through respect, flexibility, professionalism, and patience.
  • Maintain established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct and be familiar with its Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
  • Perform lifesaving skills and maintain Heart Saver Certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.

Requirements

  • Housekeeping experience is a plus but not required; formal on-the-job training provided.
  • Minimum of 1 year of previous patient care experience preferred.
  • Must speak, read, and write English to the extent required by the position.
  • Must possess and maintain Heart Saver Certification.
  • High School Diploma or equivalency preferred.

Job Setting / Physical Demands

  • Work in all areas of the Medical Center.
  • Extremely heavy physical effort (lift/carry 50 lbs. or more).
  • Frequent prolonged standing/walking.
  • Push/pull or move heavy equipment/supplies.
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and/or crouching.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility.
  • Lift, position, push, and/or transfer patients.

Pay

$19.00 per hour with differentials: $1.15 for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
