About the Role

Under the immediate supervision of the Environmental Services Supervisor and Director, this position performs cleaning duties with a high degree of accuracy and skill to maintain a clean, safe, and sterile environment in assigned areas.

Responsibilities

• General Cleaning (As Assigned)
  • Uses appropriate chemicals and safety equipment for cleaning tasks.
  • Wears the required uniform at all times.
  • Performs discharge cleaning of patient rooms upon request from the Supervisor.
  • Maintains indoor plants on all floors.
  • Vacuums carpeted areas on the unit.
  • Shines stainless steel surfaces routinely.
  • Washes walls and dusts vents, ensuring they are free of streaks, blood, stains, and dust.
  • Performs other assigned cleaning tasks.
• General Duties (As Assigned)
  • Ensures the Environmental Services Aide cart/closet is kept neat and clean.
  • Keeps records of supplies sent outside areas and reports to the Supervisor.
  • Tracks supplies used in the Medical Office Building.
  • Operates hospital vehicles as needed.
  • Removes and replaces sharps containers in appropriate areas.
  • Reports equipment in need of repair to the Supervisor.
  • Operates the Box Bailer unit according to procedure.
  • Checks and stocks supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissue, and soap.
  • Signs in/out daily for required keys/beeper and ensures their return at the end of the shift.
  • Takes dirty mops and cleaning cloths to the department at the end of the shift.
  • Uses universal precautions, including wearing gloves, goggles, and frequent hand washing.
  • Wears appropriate uniforms in Surgery and Central Processing departments.
• Medical Waste / Trash (As Assigned)
  • Disposes of medical waste properly.
  • Ensures medical waste, trash, and soiled linen are removed frequently.
  • Transports trash and medical waste using carts with tight-fitting lids.
  • Makes rounds to patient and department areas to remove trash.
  • Separates recyclable items and takes them to the appropriate collection area.
  • Obtains medical waste tracking documents.
  • Transports chemotherapy or radioactive waste.
  • Transports soiled linen.
• Auto Clave (As Assigned)
  • Conducts biological tests of the San-I-Pak sterilization process.
  • Informs the Supervisor immediately if the autoclave unit is not functioning properly.
  • Monitors the temperature of the autoclave unit.
  • Changes the autoclave temperature control graph.
  • Operates the San-I-Pak autoclave according to procedure.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
  • No prior experience required.
• Licensure and/or Certifications
  • None required.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed throughout the facility according to individual schedules.
• Work involves bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
• Ability to use Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
• Potential exposure to patient blood or body fluids.

Available to work weekends.
