Under general supervision, clean all assigned areas to maintain an aseptically clean, orderly, and safe environment.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties
- Adhere to customer service standards: display courtesy, positive attitude, and professionalism in all communications; maintain confidentiality; handle difficult situations discreetly; promote positive public relations.
- Properly dispose of soiled linens using standard precautions and re-line hampers.
- Remove trash and re-line containers using standard precautions.
- Dispose of medical waste following the medical waste management plan.
- Deliver linens to assigned areas with all strings removed.
- Clean trash cans in soiled utility rooms and outside entrances according to policy.
- Dispose of confidential papers on schedule.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the trash compactor area.
- Complete hard floor and carpet care according to procedures and document work.
- Clean baseboards, corners, and edges to prevent dust build-up.
- Complete area assignment sheets daily and ensure all duties are finished.
- Assist team members to ensure the entire area is clean before leaving.
- Clean equipment at the end of the shift and return it to designated areas.
- Secure gated areas at all times.
Patient Area
- Sweep and mop floors.
- Clean and disinfect sinks, mirrors, and water fountains.
- Replenish deodorizers, toilet tissue, paper towels, and soap daily as needed.
- Perform isolation and transfer/discharge cleaning as assigned.
- Polish furniture, doors, chrome, and stainless steel.
- Move furniture such as beds, chairs, and tables on wheels.
- Carry out duties using appropriate safety and security practices.
- Maintain assigned equipment in clean, operable condition.
- Mix, use, and dispose of chemicals according to directions.
- Report items in need of repair to Lead Person/Supervisor.
- Spot clean walls as needed.
- Clean patient refrigerators and ice machines.
OR Area
- At 1500 hours, check each OR suite for cleanliness, correct furniture placement, and LPH solution availability.
- Check and resupply mopheads, rags, and other supplies as needed.
- Transport specimens to the lab if present.
- Check OR warmer for NS blankets and restock as needed.
- Mop hallways, lounges, scrub sink area, workroom, decent area, and Cysto storage room.
- Clean sinks, hoppers, and counters in the Acute Recovery Room.
- Clean sinks and toilets in nurses' and doctors' lounges.
- Terminate at least one surgery suite nightly, including thorough cleaning of all equipment, high dusting, and disassembling the OR table.
- Check and clean shelves above for cleanliness; restock masks, brushes, and scrub solutions as needed.
- Restock male dressing room with hats and shoe covers as needed.
- Assist with positioning and moving patients when needed.
- Replenish all supplies.
- Mop Acute Recovery Room and anesthesia office as needed.
- Clean face plates of all vents in OR suites with a dust mop; dust all vents and light fixtures.
Trash and Linen Area
- Replace trash receptacles that are more than full unless the liner is torn, soiled, or contaminated.
- For receptacles less than full, empty contents into a large trash collection bag at the cleaning cart (except in Isolation Rooms or Critical Care areas).
- Wash trash receptacles with a germicidal solution if soiled.
- Place collected trash in appropriate waste containers; never leave trash in corridors.
- Transport trash from soiled hold rooms to designated disposal areas using appropriate carts.
Offices
- Clean medicine cabinet mirrors, soap dispensers, and sinks (including pipes under the sink).
- Damp wipe and dry all chrome fixtures.
- Clean toilets inside and out.
- Ensure soap and paper dispensers are cleaned and filled.
- Empty, wash, and reline trash receptacles.
- Spot clean glass doors and windows.
- Clean food service areas, sinks, ice machines, microwave ovens, and refrigerators.
- Clean utility rooms including sinks.
Other Duties
- Use caution signs when mopping floors.
- Follow safety procedures while operating equipment.
- Clean all work equipment including carts and buckets.
- Return vacuum cleaners in operating condition; replace bags when full.
- Ensure all spray bottles are properly labeled.
- Do not obstruct traffic or exits with equipment.
- Clean janitor's closet including shelving, hopper, and floor.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Manager, Environmental Services.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Coursework in hospital housekeeping or institutional environmental management preferred.
- Four years of environmental service experience in an acute care environment preferred.
- Ability to communicate and understand oral and written instructions in English.
- Skills with the use of personal protective equipment, housekeeping supplies, and equipment.
- Familiarity with OSHA and JCAHO standards.
- Knowledge of technical process procedures and financial management tools.
- Problem-solving, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Effective time management.
- Basic computer skills.
Physical Hazards
- Regular exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, hazardous materials, and waste.
- Frequent work near moving mechanical parts; exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
- Occasional work in outside weather conditions.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
Pay
Approximate pay range: $30.15 - $36.00 per hour.
Schedule
Per-diem, AM shift.
