Events Support Staff (WAR/Part-Time)
General Operational Assistance
Performs general operational assistance with setting up and breakdown of equipment for a variety of events in Historic Yorktown, Riverwalk Landing and the Yorktown Freight Shed. Distributes information and answers questions from visitors and the general public about upcoming special events, tourism businesses and attractions.
Must exercise considerable tact and courtesy when interacting with local businesses, vendors, contractors, freight shed renters and general public.
Equipment Setup and Breakdown
Set up and break down a variety of equipment in a timely manner for scheduled special events in a variety of locations in Historic Yorktown throughout the year.
Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions to supervisor.
Visitor Assistance
Affords assistance to visitors and the general public with answering questions about Historic Yorktown, businesses and attractions in the area.
Distributes tourism and event materials as needed.
Facility Management
Responsible for informing the general public and freight shed renters of local regulations and policies.
Maintains the cleanliness of freight shed and event storage areas as well as the event trailer.
Ensures that all equipment is secured in storage rooms, and buildings are secured after assigned shift; informs supervisor if any areas or locations are unable to be secured.
Event Support
Interacts with local law enforcement and Fire and Life Safety personnel during events.
Work is performed mostly outdoors and under varying weather conditions; may require working days, evenings, weekends and holidays to support year-round events in Yorktown.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High School diploma or equivalent, and work experience involving public contact, general experience working special events which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Physical Demands
- Requires regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking/running over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, kneeling, leaping, jumping down, standing in place or continual walking, lifting and carrying moderate to heavy items (minimum of 50 pounds) on a consistent basis.
- Must be able to drive a utility vehicle and be able to work in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.
