Summary of Job
Performs custodial maintenance duties, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking classrooms, restrooms, and common areas.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Completes required training for the role.
- Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, sweeping, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking classrooms, restrooms, and common areas.
- Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
- Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels.
- Aids in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
- Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
- Works to conserve energy and ensure the minimum use of electricity and fuel (closing windows, doors, shutting off lights in unoccupied areas, etc).
- May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. May report issues with vendors to the supervisor.
- May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.
- May assist in the care and upkeep of athletic complex and outside general activities including raking, sweeping, and tree/brush removal.
- Unlocks doors to access areas and ensures doors are locked after cleaning areas.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Ability to work effectively, flexibly, and harmoniously with others including students, staff, administration, and the public.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, ability to climb to the height of school roof/ceiling.

- Ability to understand verbal instructions.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.

- Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
- Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.

- Ability to understand written and verbal communications.
- Ability to be flexible as planned and unplanned needs arise.
Working Conditions And Physical Effort
- Considerable physical activity.
- Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
- Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
