Ethnic Studies Instructor, Part-Time

Rio Hondo College welcomes and embraces all students in their educational and career pathways. About the role

This is a continuous recruitment to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments will refer to the pool of applicants to fill temporary assignments. You will be contacted by the hiring manager if the department is interested in scheduling an interview.

Assignments may include teaching courses during day and evening hours. The position starts in Spring 2027, with a pool percentage not to exceed 60%.

Responsibilities

• Teach Ethnic Studies courses as assigned.
• Demonstrate a commitment to professional excellence and continuous growth in teaching.
• Fulfill other professional responsibilities and activities expected of community college faculty as described by Board Policies and the California Education Code.

Requirements

• Master’s in African American Studies, Black Studies, Africana Studies, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Asian American Studies, Native American Studies, American Indian Studies, or Ethnic Studies.
• OR a Bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline AND 16 semester units of graduate coursework in the ethnic field AND a Master’s degree in at least one other constituent discipline, including American studies, women’s studies, black studies, American Indian studies, communication studies, cultural studies, political science, sociology, English/creative writing, literature, history, education, psychology, or art.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
• Foreign degrees must be evaluated by an approved evaluation service prior to submission. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.
