ETF Lead Fund Accountant
About the role
The Lead Fund Accountant oversees the fund accountant’s daily workload, approves exception cases, and oversees general ledger accounting functions for multiple funds. This role also monitors and reviews preliminary trial balance and NAV calculations, analyzes security pricing exceptions, and assesses potential training needs.
Responsibilities
- Approve exception cases created by the Fund Accountant for 15-20 funds daily, including the most complex funds of the team.
- Calculate the net asset value for one to two assigned funds.
- Identify and address potential issues related to client activity or procedures.
- Review and prepare reports for clients on fund issues.
- Test new releases to the accounting system and present new upgrade features to the Fund Accountants.
- Independently review or perform general ledger accounting functions ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Monitor and review preliminary trial balance and NAV calculation for multiple funds.
- Monitor and analyze income and expense accruals to ensure GAAP compliance.
- Reconcile cash settlements and position quantities to custodian and prime broker records.
- Investigate and resolve cash or position discrepancies by collaborating with relevant parties.
- Analyze security pricing exceptions to ensure proper prices are used in the calculation of the NAV.
- Assess potential training needs for the Fund Accountants and provide feedback to the manager regarding performance.
- Identify potential issues and possible solutions for the funds being reviewed.
- Partner with various internal/external parties to ensure compliance with SEC regulations, IRS, and GAAP reporting regulations.
- Coordinate audit materials and responses to audit inquiries.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance, or equivalent experience.
- At least six (6) years of external funding accounting or related experience, or five and a half (5.5) years of UMB Fund accounting experience.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of accounting policies and procedures, SEC, IRS, and GAAP regulations.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
Skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Experience with financial modeling and analysis.
- Knowledge of financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
