Responsibilities
- Perform Steady State and dynamic stability studies for solar, wind, storage plants, and utility power systems.
- Develop and validate models for inverters and power plant controllers in ETAP, PSSE/PSLF, ASPEN, PSCAD, etc., and perform grid interconnection studies for utility-scale renewable energy projects including Solar, Storage, Wind, and Hybrid.
- Conduct power quality studies, including RMS and EMT simulations, and analyze bulk transmission and distributed generation system data.
- Develop preliminary plant layouts and Single Line Diagrams for renewable energy projects.
- Perform feasibility/injection studies for renewable energy projects.
- Perform specialized studies such as ETAP load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, grounding, cable ampacity, motor starting, and power quality studies, as well as insulation coordination, reactive capability, harmonics, TOV, and other transmission planning studies using ETAP, PSSE, and PSCAD as applicable.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering reports that clearly document methodologies, assumptions, results, and recommendations.
- Coordinate and attend meetings with Developers, Utilities, ISOs, and equipment manufacturers as a subject matter expert on Grid Integration, Power System Studies, and Transmission Planning.
- Perform equipment modeling and benchmarking studies as applicable.
- Stay updated with evolving power system standards, ETAP capabilities, utility requirements, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience or Master's Degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong experience with ETAP and one or more additional power system software tools such as PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, TSAT, TARA, EMTP-RV, or DIgSILENT.
- Demonstrated experience performing ETAP studies, including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, grounding, motor starting, cable ampacity, and power quality analysis.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: transmission planning, renewable grid integration studies, stability studies, reliability assessments, and EPC power system studies.
- Experience working with ISOs (Independent System Operators) and/or RTOs (Regional Transmission Organizations).
- Fundamental understanding of electric power systems, renewable energy, inverter-based resources, and utility interconnection requirements.
- Proficiency in Python, Java, C++, or similar programming languages is preferred.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, verbal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, multicultural, team-oriented environment.
