Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other project documents.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for all phases of construction.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids.
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry professionals.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations.
- Absorb and implement value engineering and cost-saving initiatives.
- Maintain historical cost data and update estimating databases.
- Collaborate with project managers and other team members to ensure alignment between estimates and project execution.
- Monitor market trends and pricing to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.
- Develop scopes of work for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Develop detailed quantity take-offs and estimates for self-performed work.
- Develop complete estimates for review by the Director of Preconstruction and VP of Operations.
- Works independently as well as under the supervision of the Director of Preconstruction and senior estimator.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in commercial construction estimating.
- Proficiency in estimating software.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Design-Build, CMAR, and hard-bid project delivery methods.
- Familiarity with LEED and sustainable building practices.
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
