About the Role
The Estimator is responsible for reviewing assigned bid opportunities, interpreting drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and related contract documents, and preparing accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for fabrication projects. This role develops quantity takeoffs, labor and production assumptions, material and subcontractor pricing, bid qualifications, and final projected costs in coordination with operations, project management, vendors, and subcontractors to support profitable project awards and successful project execution.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates bids from customers
- Determines cost projections for bids
- Secures subcontractor prices, when appropriate
- Secures material prices
- Completes material take-offs
- Completes bids on time
- Attends job shows
- Obtains input for project from Operational Department Managers before completing project estimates
- Accepts assigned bids
- Studies and understands work scopes and specifications
- Develops project task list
- Prices materials
- Prices subcontractor tasks
- Develops estimates according to company formats
- Inputs project data into computer templates
- Prepares transmittal letters
- Prepares completed job folder
- Lists bid qualifications
- Completes bid forms
- Prepares data for Project Managers, including preliminary schedule, man-hours, weight, costs, and sales
- Represents the company in a professional and positive manner to clients
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering and/or business-related fields (strong preference for a graduate engineer with extensive business background training)
- Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in the midstream oil and gas and chemical industry and downstream markets, including business development and sales experience
Skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organizational skills
- Strong industry knowledge of target markets
- Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office applications with the ability to learn and utilize specific estimating software
