Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide and coordinate full estimating services on heavy-civil and heavy-highway construction projects ranging from $1M to $20M
- Review Customer contracts to ensure proper scope and terms.
- Analyze and compile estimate data that impact the cost of labor, materials, equipment requirements, location and other factors to ensure a high quality and timely estimate.
- Evaluate alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness of the bid
- Manage and monitor costs for work while maintaining or improving target margins
- Research upcoming projects and aid in developing customer base
- Attend potential bid meetings and required site visits
- Present estimate and participate in executive bid reviews with senior management to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Review “take-off” quantities to ensure accuracy of data used in estimates.
- Ensure individual development and that The Wesson Group’s quality standards are met and standard operating procedures are followed
- Bid and pre-construction scoping
- Solicit and coordinate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure full coverage on all scopes of work.
- Prepare preliminary pre-bid schedules
- Work with PM and other required staff to prepare statements of qualifications
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Contractors, Engineers, and suppliers to prepare accurate estimates
- Draft proposals that outline the project requirements
- Work with estimating staff to acquire competitive and successful bids
- Communicate estimate bid information to field operations at budget transfer and pre-construction meetings to ensure understanding of scope of job and critical means and methods of construction.
- Maintain subscriptions for project search databases and monitor databases for opportunities.
Qualifications
- Maintain a positive, can-do attitude, approaches challenges with practical solutions, and enjoys working as part of a team.
- Show resourcefulness and creativity in problem-solving.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or civil engineering, with 3–5 years of experience in highway, utility infrastructure, and/or renewable energy projects preferred.
- Three positive references from whom you’ve worked in the last 3-5 years.
- OSHA 30 Certificate and related training required
- Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and/or AGTEK preferred.
