About the role

Do you love working with clients and helping to solve their commercial construction problems? Do you enjoy developing client relationships and helping to make their construction dreams come true? As a Commercial Construction Estimator at The Alan Group, you must understand all aspects of the construction process, means, methods, schedule, and costs to create an accurate estimate. You’ll foster and maintain relationships with clients and trade partners by listening to their goals and developing strategies to help achieve them. As an Estimator, you are an important part of our commercial construction operations.

Responsibilities

• Accurately bid profitable projects by following our estimating processes from beginning to end with detail and consistency
• Bid projects conceptually by working with clients to problem-solve a job (this is not a typical estimating position)
• Administer the buy-out process with trade partners and the Project Manager to write detailed scopes of work
• Bring your client and subcontractor network with you, and build and maintain positive relationships with clients, architects, and trade partners
• Represent our brand in a professional manner, including dress, demeanor, and language
• Create solutions and resolve problems on projects, such as supply chain issues, drawing errors, etc.
• Commit to delivering bids by posted deadlines, if not prior to deadline
• Present projects to prospective clients, trade partners, and suppliers

Requirements

• 5+ years’ experience in estimating or similar construction costing experience in general contracting/construction management
• 5+ years of demonstrated proficiency in accurately bidding commercial construction projects between $250,000 and $5 million
• In-person position at our Troy, Michigan office; collaboration with other team members is required
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel formulas and spreadsheets (estimates are created using Excel templates; proposals are created in Word)
