Contribute to the success and profitability of projects by providing accurate, timely, and complete estimates. Provide ongoing assistance during the building phase, including estimate interpretation, problem resolution, and processing of change orders.

Responsibilities

  • Actively support the Estimating function’s goals and objectives.
  • Share knowledge and stay abreast of evolving industry trends, techniques, and equipment.
  • Focus on long-range priorities, customer feedback, and continuous improvement of processes.
  • Collaborate across area offices to ensure consistent estimating practices and procedures.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and standards while protecting company interests.
  • Promote and protect Teichert’s values, including diversity, teamwork, and respect.
  • Maintain a team spirit within the business unit and cooperate with other disciplines.
  • Use resources effectively and efficiently to promote a positive community perception of Teichert.
  • Accurately prepare estimates by reviewing proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope.
  • Determine required contents of estimates and evaluate historical data to project unit and man-hour figures.
  • Complete projects on time in accordance with company standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Establish and coordinate completion dates and technical specifications for project teams, including:
    • Calculating complete takeoff for scope of work using computer-aided systems.
    • Estimating manpower, equipment, and material needs.
    • Coordinating with field personnel to schedule work.
    • Evaluating progress and results continuously.
  • Coordinate job setup by preparing breakdowns, subcontracts, purchase orders, and other required documents.
  • Review plans and field changes, and prepare change orders as required.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Superintendents on problem resolution and efficiency improvements.
  • Recommend changes in procedures, objectives, or solutions based on cost, engineering quality, and material availability.
  • Identify and act on potential business opportunities and new client prospects.
  • Build and maintain positive client relationships to increase business and referrals.
  • Communicate company and project policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Gather feedback and continuously improve work processes, practices, and equipment.
  • Support a zero-injury culture through Teichert’s Injury Prevention and Safety program.
  • Complete internal administrative tasks, including project logs, files, records, and reports.
  • Contribute to written and up-to-date estimating guidelines, manuals, and policies.

Key Relationships

  • Reports To: Estimating Manager
  • Direct Reports: Senior-level estimators may oversee Project Engineers or lower-level Estimators.
  • External Clients: Owners, developers, consultants, private customers, public agencies, state and federal regulatory agencies, A/E representatives, industry peers.
  • Internal Clients: Business Development Representative, Estimating Manager, Take-off Technician, Engineering Technician, Superintendents, Project Managers, Administrative Manager, Contract Administrator, Cost Analysts, Estimators, Project Engineers, Administrative Staff, Materials, and other business units.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • Experience & Industry Expertise:
    • Minimum of five years of estimating experience in construction, or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
    • Senior-level estimators should have prior experience supervising team bidding efforts and estimating a broad range of projects/contracts.
    • Experience in managing client relationships.
  • Specific Job Requirements:
    • Successful completion of pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation.
    • Valid Driver’s License.
    • Current on all company-required safety training.
    • Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and avoid conflicts of interest.
    • Strong working knowledge of computers, estimating, and project management software.
    • Good working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, personnel issues, and EEO.
    • Thorough knowledge of construction contracts and law.
    • Strong understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, and cost control.
    • Strong working knowledge of company’s Standard Operating Policies and Procedures.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Physical Demands:
    • Sitting for long periods while working at a computer or driving to job sites.
    • Job site visits may require walking on uneven ground, climbing, bending, stooping, or crawling in confined spaces.
    • Lifting materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
    • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • May work long hours during peak seasons.
  • Work Environment:
    • Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low noise levels.
    • Demands of meeting tight deadlines.
    • Exposure to job site conditions, including loud noise, dust, fumes, and extreme weather.
    • May work various shifts, including early mornings, dusk, or evenings.

Pay

Base Salary Range: $130,000.00 - $230,000.00. The range reflects what the company reasonably expects to pay for the position. Actual base salary may vary based on role, level, geographic location, education, training, or experience.
