About the role

As an Estimator at Service Electric Company, you will collaborate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and our internal team to create estimates and assemble bids for projects within our core markets. This role focuses on enhancing the profitability of the company and optimizing our workforce, with a specific emphasis on underground projects. You will have the autonomy to make certain decisions independently while collaborating with a manager on more complex matters.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
  • Collaborate with Lead and Senior Estimators to prepare documents for legal review.
  • Identify bid type and scope, construction timeframes, materials, labor expenses, bonding, and bid requirements.
  • Travel to and attend pre-bid meetings and/or jobsites, either independently or accompanied by a senior team member, depending on bid complexity or customer.
  • Identify potential project risks and discuss them with Lead and Senior Estimators.
  • Recommend and gather quotes for subcontractors and materials as needed.
  • Work with Lead and Senior Estimators to perform takeoffs, build project and construction plans, and create supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with Lead and Senior Estimators to finalize schedules, work plans, and clarify expectations.
  • Complete bid forms, enter information into appropriate websites, and ensure everything is in order to submit a final bid with oversight from Lead and Senior Estimators.
  • Submit the final bid with approval from leadership.
  • Maintain bid logs.
  • Assist with labor and equipment rate schedules.
  • Collaborate with Project Management and Field Leadership to ensure the job is set up correctly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent knowledge/skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 3+ years of estimating experience in the electrical construction field.
  • Experience with underground electrical construction.
  • Strong experience in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify and solve issues.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Strong project management skills, capable of handling multiple projects concurrently with good time management.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to conduct yourself professionally as a representative of Service Electric Company in a diverse work environment.

Travel

Moderate travel is required for this role.
