About the role
The Preconstruction Team at Sampson Construction is seeking new team members including Estimators, Dr. Estimators, or Preconstruction Managers. This role supports construction projects by preparing full estimates on large and complex projects as required by client's documents.
Responsibilities
- Displays professional communication with all parties involved in the construction project, including engaging in effective conflict resolution and problem-solving strategies.
- Reviews project specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Prepares estimates including performing quantity takeoffs.
- Maintains files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Requests quotations; organizes, reviews, and logs quotes received.
- Visits project sites to evaluate implications upon final estimate costing.
- Updates skills for software tools and technology utilized.
- Performs post-bid analysis and participates in project hand-off meetings.
- Aids in cost control system setup.
- Helps prepare for and participate in proposals and interviews seeking potential new business opportunities.
- Participates in bid review meetings with OAC team.
- Prepares information needed to write subcontracts.
- Manages solicitation process to ensure maximum subcontractor bids are received.
- Delivers major bids, picks up drawings and other miscellaneous bid-related errands.
- Coordinates subcontractors in attempt to eliminate and minimize scope gaps.
- Provides complete summary at conceptual, SD, DD and CD drawing levels including costing, scheduling, and quality reviews.
- Performs other related functions as required or assigned.
Qualifications
- Skills:
- Follows department protocol regarding confidentiality of data and information.
- Knowledge of disciplines, estimating techniques, and cost control.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively in a positive or negative situation.
- Computer skills – Timberline, Expedition, Excel, ICE, PayDirt, Digitizer, On Screen Take-off, Microsoft Outlook and Word.
- Accuracy and thoroughness – monitors work to ensure quality.
- Dependable – consistently at work and on time, follows instructions.
- Manages multiple activities at same time and maintains priorities.
- Education:
- Construction Management degree or equivalent combination of technical training and/or experience.
- LEED AP preferred.
- Experience:
- 3-5 years’ experience with projects of 5 million and larger.
