Core Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for: Detention equipment packages (doors, frames, hardware, security glazing, etc.)
- Quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and BIM models
- Analyze bid documents, specifications, and scope requirements
- Develop estimates that reflect actual shop production workflows:
- Labor hours (welding, fabrication, assembly)
- Material costs (steel, hardware, specialty components)
- Equipment utilization and throughput constraints
- Cook up estimates to align with real-world manufacturing capabilities and project execution strategies.
- Coordinate with production teams to validate fabrication methods
- Validate cycle times, shop capacity impacts, vendor & procurement coordination
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors and subcontractors
- Level bids and ensure scope coverage aligns with project requirements
- Work with procurement to identify cost-saving opportunities and long-lead risks
- Incorporate field labor, installation sequencing, and site constraints into estimates.
- Coordinate with field operations to validate crew sizing and productivity rates
- Account for shipping, handling, and logistics of manufactured components
- Support value engineering efforts and alternative design solutions.
- Clearly define inclusions, exclusions, and assumptions in all estimates
- Identify scope gaps, design conflicts, and constructability risks
- Collaborate with:
- Design team (AOR, internal design/BIM)
- Engineering Operations and field leadership
- Support design-assist and design-build efforts with real-time pricing input
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent field experience in DEC / fabrication / construction)
- 3–8+ years of estimating experience in one or more of the following: Detention equipment (DEC), Structural steel / fabrication, Precast or modular construction, Commercial construction with manufacturing integration
Required Technical Skills
- Bluebeam (takeoffs and document review)
- Microsoft Excel (advanced estimating and cost modeling)
- Ability to read and interpret: Shop drawings, Construction documents, Specifications

- Procore
