Key Responsibilities

  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation to perform material takeoffs and develop complete construction cost estimates for substation projects.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of project proposals, bid packages, schedules, and supporting documentation prior to submission.
  • Collaborate with project teams to define project scope, engineering requirements, construction methodology, and contractual obligations.
  • Develop conceptual and budgetary estimates based on limited project information and preliminary scopes of work.
  • Prepare detailed estimates using project-specific drawings, standards, and technical requirements.
  • Analyze labor, equipment, materials, subcontractor costs, and schedule impacts associated with project execution.
  • Lead internal estimate review meetings with management and operations personnel to validate scope, pricing, risk, and execution strategy.
  • Support competitive bid and negotiated contract pursuits by providing accurate cost analyses and technical input.
  • Maintain and utilize historical cost data and estimating tools to improve estimate accuracy and consistency.
  • Provide pre-construction support and assist project teams during project handoff and startup activities.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, ensuring alignment with project scope and requirements.
  • Cook up with customers, vendors, engineering teams, and subcontractors to gather project information and pricing.
  • Conduct occasional site visits to evaluate existing conditions and project requirements.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, client presentations, and project review discussions as needed.
  • Evaluate project-specific safety, regulatory, and code compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with estimating, engineering, and operations teams to secure and successfully transition awarded projects.

Qualifications

  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience using estimating software, project management systems, and related construction tools.
  • Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure, utility construction practices, and industry standards.
  • Experience with utility substations required; exposure to transmission, renewable energy, battery energy storage, or power generation projects is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • Three or more years of estimating, project management, engineering, construction, or field experience within the utility substation industry preferred.
