About the role

K&A Engineering Consulting is a privately held company specializing in substation, transmission, distribution, distributed energy resources, and EPC services. We provide comprehensive consulting, engineering and design, program/project management, construction management, and support services to power utility and industrial clients.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for EPC projects, with a focus on transmission lines and substations.
• Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and project scopes to determine labor, material, and equipment requirements.
• Develop quantity takeoffs and cost breakdowns for civil, structural, electrical, and construction project components.
• Collaborate with engineering, project management, procurement, and construction teams to validate assumptions and refine estimates.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes to support pricing accuracy.
• Support proposal development, bid reviews, and client presentations as needed.
• Maintain historical cost data and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating tools and processes.
• Assist in risk identification, value engineering, and constructability reviews during the estimating phase.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not required).
• 2–5+ years of estimating experience in utility, EPC, renewables, or heavy industrial environments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Prior estimating experience in the transmission and distribution sector, ideally with EPC or design-build projects.
• Familiarity with power delivery industry standards, construction methods, and material requirements.
• Proficiency with estimating software, Excel, and quantity takeoff tools.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, one-lines, site plans, and construction documents.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced proposal environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in utility, EPC, renewables, or heavy industrial environments.
• Technical ability in estimating and project management.
• Knowledge of power delivery industry standards, construction methods, and material requirements.
• Proficiency with estimating software, Excel, and quantity takeoff tools.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $110,000—$150,000, considering a wide range of factors including technical ability, experience, and training.
