Estimator

About the role

As a Senior Estimator at Enclos, you will join our preconstruction team and play a key role in evaluating, pricing, and winning complex façade projects. This position combines technical expertise, leadership, and strategic thinking as you analyze construction documents, develop detailed quantity takeoffs, prepare comprehensive cost estimates, and mentor estimators. Working closely with Sales, Engineering, and Operations teams, you will help shape project strategy from the earliest stages.

Responsibilities

• Analyze all architectural drawings, specifications, and addenda to determine project requirements.
• Determine Enclos scope of the project and supply a written scope to the Sales Team and the Estimating Manager.
• Prepare budget and/or hard bid take-offs per attached minimum requirements.
• Extract, sort, and produce glass and metal materials recaps using current spreadsheets or forms.
• Maintain regular contact with the Sales Team regarding project status and anticipated completion of take-offs.
• Lead the distribution of bid documents via Enclos FTP project file, monitor for updates, and notify the Sales Team of changes.
• Furnish required information to the Estimating Manager or supporting Estimator II when not performing the metal estimate.
• Meet schedule requirements and keep Sales and Estimating Manager informed of project status.
• Prepare accurate and detailed project recaps listing all exclusions and special conditions.
• Identify and communicate problem areas discovered during takeoff to Sales and Estimating Manager.
• Forward all completed takeoff information to the Sales representative and Estimating Manager and remain available for questions until the project is bid.
• Furnish required takeoffs, drawings, and specifications to preferred vendors or as specified by Sales; provide copies of RFQ to Sales with takeoffs.
• Follow up with vendors to verify quotation receipt, answer questions, and ensure timely pricing on outside materials.
• Review vendor quotes for bid comparison and adherence to specifications; notify Sales of discrepancies and work with vendors to clarify.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors.
• Train Estimator I and II in estimating takeoffs.
• Review elevation takeoffs, recaps, and preliminary design drawings.
• Designate system members and produce metal material takeoffs from bid documents.
• Determine die requirements, framing member weights, and finish perimeters; coordinate pricing with Design and Structural departments.
• Prepare system pricing by wall type, including system square footage, unit counts, base aluminum, finishing and shop labor costs, anchor and embed quantities, and pricing for extrusions, finishing, die costs, fabrication, freight, fasteners, gasket, thermal break materials, structural steel reinforcing, and brakeform shapes.
• Act as lead Estimator as assigned by the Estimating Manager.
• Provide feedback to the Estimating Manager on the performance of Estimator I and II.
• Use Revit as a takeoff tool, improve proficiency, and share suggestions for tool improvements with IT.
• Train on new estimating technologies.
• Seek clarification from the Sales team on non-traditional systems before spending significant time on takeoffs; provide detailed recaps for pricing.
• Perform additional assignments as requested by the Estimating Manager.
• Assume supervisory responsibility for the Estimating Department in the absence of the Estimating Manager, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, and providing performance feedback.

Requirements

• Associate's degree (A.A.) or Bachelor's Degree; or 5 to 10 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, specifications, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office as well as advanced estimating programs and spreadsheet skills.
