Our Gardena, CA facility is a leading global supplier of large stretch-formed aircraft skins, hot forming of titanium, superplastic forming, and complex fastened and welded assemblies.
About the role
Develop, analyze, evaluate, coordinate, prepare, and oversee cost proposals to government and commercial customers. Review and interpret Requests for Proposal (RFP) for all pricing requirements and collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Program Management to establish the approach and schedule for bidding. Identify and generate RFPs for materials and outside processing, research historical data, and develop fully traceable summaries to create compliant and accurate cost proposals. Support customer changes or modifications and participate in contract negotiations. Establish manufacturing methods, prepare detailed job instructions, and produce Basis of Estimate (BOE) reporting sheets. Compile Non-Recurring (NRE) tooling cost summaries and Recurring (REC) cost calculations, including labor, materials, outside processing, and internal work orders. Provide financial analysis, prepare BOE summaries for management approval, and ensure quotes are "Fair & Reasonable" before submission. Attend Product Launch meetings as needed, adhere to departmental best practices, and stay current with aerospace industry technologies and techniques.
Responsibilities
- Review and interpret RFPs for pricing requirements and work with cross-functional teams to establish bidding approaches and schedules.
- Identify and generate RFPs for materials and outside processing to suppliers or internal purchasing.
- Research historical data in detail and develop fully traceable cost summaries.
- Develop fully compliant and accurate cost proposals for government and commercial customers.
- Support customer changes or modifications and participate in contract negotiations.
- Establish manufacturing methods, prepare detailed job instructions, and produce Basis of Estimate (BOE) reporting sheets.
- Compile Non-Recurring (NRE) tooling cost summaries, including labor, tools, equipment, and outside sub-tier requirements.
- Provide Recurring (REC) cost calculations using established templates, including labor hours, material, outside processing, and internal work orders.
- Perform financial analysis against cost elements and prepare BOE summaries for management and senior-level approval.
- Ensure quotes are "Fair & Reasonable" prior to submission to Sales, Business Management, or the customer.
- Attend and support Product Launch meetings as necessary or directed.
- Adhere to departmental best practices to meet requirements, deadlines, and obligations.
- Stay current with the latest aerospace industry technologies, techniques, and trends through continuous learning.
- Responsible for proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in the work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including leading projects and participating in project committees.
Requirements
- Minimum High School diploma or equivalent; 2-year or 4-year degree with courses in Manufacturing and/or Engineering preferred.
- Five years’ experience and proven knowledge of cost estimating and price analysis skills, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1–5 years’ experience within the Aerospace or aircraft production industry.
- At least 1 year of experience in Aerospace estimating (preferred).
Skills
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and mylars.
- Proficiency in modeling software such as Catia.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications.
- Knowledge of manufacturing materials, processes, and tooling.
- Strong teamwork and individual work capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Thorough knowledge of learning curve applications, mathematical formulas, and multi-curve projections.
- Knowledge of stretch forming, machining, chemical milling, sheet metal, and assembly processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of BAAN V, Auto-vue, SolidWorks, Unigraphics, and ERP/MRP systems (a plus).
Pay
Base compensation: USD 23.00 – 28.00 per hour.
