About the role
The Estimator at CBX Solutions is responsible for interpreting total opening requirements as outlined in contract documents, such as plans, specifications, addendums, and related information. This role involves working closely with contractors through the hard bid process, reviewing scope of work, determining competitive positions, and performing labor cost interpretations.
Responsibilities
- Works directly with Contractors, including participating in hard bid processes.
- Reviews scope of work with General Contractors, pre- and post-bid, and hardware/HMF manufacturer combo packages to determine the most competitive position.
- Performs labor cost interpretation based on the scope of work.
- Receives constructing plans, drawings, and specifications and reviews for completeness; notes bid deadlines and any special requirements.
- Organizes project approach by deciding how to separate portions of major projects and identifying typical opening or hardware sets, etc.; notes project construction schedules, if applicable.
- Interprets construction specifications; where necessary, discusses interpretations with team salespersons, customers, or architects.
- Reads building plans and identifies applicable portions with Cook & Boardman involvement.
- Sets up approach to project by summarizing door openings and other applicable portions of plans by type.
- Compares actual and estimated materials on completion of each project.
- Enters applicable information into Comsense system and prices jobs based on computer cost files.
- Responsible for complete door and hardware takeoffs and costing all parts and scope of work.
- Handles all types of scopes of projects as assigned.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of related experience in similar construction or building material industry.
- Accurate mathematical skills.
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
Qualifications
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Blueprint/plan reading and specification interpretation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of door, frame, and hardware applications as they relate to UL, fire code, building code, ADA, life safety, and other restrictions relevant to general commercial construction.
- Excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented, deadline-conscious, goal-driven, and capable of handling various scope projects.
