About the role

Clayton is a vertically integrated housing company that builds, sells, and insures affordable housing. The Estimator 3 develops accurate material lists from architectural plans for residential, multi-family, and commercial construction projects, ensuring lists are produced accurately and timely based on blueprints provided by customers. This role requires knowledge of commonly used framing concepts and practices within the construction industry, a strong belief in the company’s mission, and the capability of working in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets blueprints
  • Develops accurate material lists including quantity and type of materials to be used
  • Ensures conformance to all relevant building requirements and municipality building codes, if applicable
  • Interprets design requirements as indicated by procedures, design manuals, and other applicable specifications
  • Generates detailed cut sheets for final construction
  • Ensures material lists are accurate, optimized, and conform to standards
  • Trains new associates on take-off software
  • Reviews team members' take-offs and bids for accuracy
  • Demonstrates a commitment to quality improvement and continuous improvement
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the job role

Requirements

  • Knowledge of residential, multi-family, and commercial construction framing practices, codes, and carpentry
  • Ability to complete take-offs for framing, siding, roofing, windows, and concrete
  • Willingness to learn modular home take-offs, including framing and interior/exterior packages
  • General computer knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with blueprint takeoff software
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints
  • Attention to detail and pride in quality of work
  • Efficiency and ability to complete assignments within deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective collaboration with team members
  • Strong teamwork ethic

Qualifications

Associate degree in a related field preferred and at least 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
