Estimating and Preconstruction Manager
About the role
As an Estimating & Preconstruction Manager, you lead how Boldt builds trust—setting projects up for success long before construction begins. You’ll drive pursuits and preconstruction efforts across power generation and pulp & paper projects, guiding work from early strategy through end of design and bringing clarity to cost, scope, and risk in complex, high-value environments.
Responsibilities

- Bring clarity to cost, scope, and risk in complex, high-value environments
- Partner closely with owners, engineers, designers, and internal teams using Lean principles, open-book contracting, and integrated delivery to align stakeholders early and build shared confidence in project outcomes
- Owning the estimating and bidding process, supporting contract negotiations, facilitating high-impact meetings, and making informed decisions with limited engineering detail
- Present estimates and recommendations transparently, identify risks and opportunities, and help ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction into execution
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align project strategies and outcomes
- Support the development of project scopes, budgets, and schedules
- Ensure compliance with project requirements and standards
Requirements
- 7+ years in construction, estimating and preconstruction (Renewables, power, or industrial project experience)
- Proven leadership of large, complex pursuits ($200M +) in power or heavy industrial environments
- EPC or Design-Build experience (power, pulp & paper preferred)
- Leadership capability with a collaborative, respectful style
- Proficiency beyond Excel (WinEst or similar preferred)
Qualifications
- Experience leading $5M+ pursuits
- Exposure to self-perform work and labor rate analysis
- Field experience or post-award preconstruction exposure
- Led by a Lean, TVM, or risk-based estimating mindset
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Project management and budgeting skills
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Pay
The anticipated salary range for this position is $120,000 to $160,200 annually. This information reflects the anticipated base salary for this position based on current market data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Actual pay will be adjusted based on an individual's skills, experiences, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
Schedule
This role is currently a hybrid position, preferring in-office work in Appleton, WI. Remote work is also available.
