Current Opening

The Adult Literacy Department offers English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes. The ESOL Instructor/Case Manager is a full-time, bargaining unit position based in Long Island, working 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop ESOL course outlines, unit and lesson plans, and related materials.
  • Integrate thematic content and required materials into lessons as required by funders.
  • Upload and update course materials and plans in the shared Google Drive.
  • Research and develop new curriculum resources, with an emphasis on social justice and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Continuously enhance teaching materials to reflect student needs and program goals.
  • Deliver ESOL instruction.
  • Implement classroom management strategies to support student engagement and retention.
  • Contact students before the first class to confirm attendance and address questions.
  • Provide initial assessment and initial orientation for all enrolled students.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student outcomes and milestones.
  • Conduct outreach, intake, and orientation processes, including scheduling and registration.
  • Ensure compliance with all funder requirements, including reporting, instructional hours, and professional development.
  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance and case management hours.
  • Enter data into Salesforce, including attendance, notes, case management notes, test scores, and other needed data.
  • Respond to funder and administrative requests on time.
  • Provide case management support through assessments, surveys, referrals, and follow-up services using up-to-date resource directories for service referrals.
  • Track student needs, referrals, and outcomes using appropriate data systems.
  • Aid in maintaining up-to-date resource directories for service referrals.
  • Build and sustain relationships with community organizations and service providers.
  • Support student access to employment, training, education, and financial resources.
  • Contribute to program improvements and innovations that enhance student services.
  • Attend staff meetings, team meetings, and organizational meetings as required.
  • Participate in professional development, conferences, and trainings aligned with funder expectations.
  • Maintain regular communication with program leadership, HR, and IT support.
  • Identify program needs and communicate them to the Program Director.
  • Contribute to program development through feedback and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Respond to emails and organizational communications in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Eligible to work in the US
  • Full bilingual (Spanish and English)
  • Experience teaching ESOL classes
  • Strong digital literacy skills with G-Suite, Microsoft Office, Box, Zoom, and Google Voice
  • Occasional travel to other MRNY offices required
  • Regular evenings and occasional weekends required
  • Possess a commitment to collective action and community organizing
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic work environment

  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets, Microsoft Office suite, and using a database (ideally Salesforce) to run reports
  • Flexible work schedule, some evenings or weekends required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of accountability and initiative; needs to be a self-starter and eager to do team work to support the organization as a whole

Salary And Benefits

MRNY offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for this position is from $61,808 to $65,036.
