About the role
The ESOL Lead Instructor is a senior instructional leadership role at the heart of BCS's ESOL program. The position carries a direct teaching load of approximately 16 contact hours per week across multiple ESOL levels, combined with responsibility for supervising part-time ESOL instructors and owning student outcomes across the program.
Responsibilities
- Teach ESOL classes across multiple proficiency levels (including in our integrated workforce training program), totaling approximately 16 contact hours per week
- Develop and continuously improve ESOL curricula aligned with student needs and program goals
- Supervise and mentor part-time ESOL instructors
- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide structured instructional feedback
- Support part-time instructors professional development and hold them to consistent instructional standards
- Foster a collaborative, student-centered instructional culture across the ESOL program
- Arrange substitute coverage for ESOL classes as needed
- Participate in the hiring process for part time instructors
- Manage performance issues with part time instructors
- Be accountable for program outcomes, including enrollment, measurable skill gain, post-testing completion, and certification
- Monitor student attendance patterns and work proactively with instructors to address attrition
- Use student feedback and outcome data to identify areas for instructional improvement
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure students are pre- and post-tested using BEST Plus 3.0 and BEST Literacy
- Coordinate testing schedules across ESOL classes and our integrated workforce training program
- Support the team with post-graduation surveying processes
- Serve as an ambassador for the ESOL program within the community
- Build relationships with current students and encourage referrals and word-of-mouth enrollment
- Participate in community events and partnerships that raise the programs profile
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Masters degree in Education, TESOL or a related field
- Three to five years of teaching experience in an adult education or ESOL setting with at least one year in a supervisory or lead capacity
- Demonstrated instructional leadership or supervisory experience
- Deep knowledge of adult learning principles and ESOL instructional best practices
- Experience with standardized ESOL assessments, including BEST Plus 3.0 and/or BEST Literacy
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to give and receive feedback constructively and communicate professionally under pressure
- Collaborative team orientation with the ability to work across departments
