ESL Tutor

About the role

The ESL Tutor assists students from bi-lingual homes, helping them with basic academic skills and class assignments under the supervision of the Director of Bi-lingual Education and in coordination with the classroom teacher.

Responsibilities

• Teach students from bi-lingual homes basic academic skills and class assignments.
• Assist the Eld Teacher in the classroom.
• Work directly with Multilingual Limited English Proficient (MLEP) students to help them succeed in school.

Requirements

• High school graduation.
• Two years (48 semester hours) full-time education at an institution of higher education; or an associate's degree; or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in a second language and a knowledge of a second culture.
• Ability to work well with students, teachers, and administrators.
• Ability to demonstrate patience and empathy when working with children.
• Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, English pronunciation, reading comprehension, and pronunciation.

Pay

$17.24 per hour (2026-27 Support Salary Table)

Schedule

3.5 hours per day, 166 days per year, Grade 3
