ESL Teacher - Southbridge Middle School

Principal Accountabilities

• Remain up to date regarding curriculum content.
• Educate students on the curriculum effectively and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments when necessary.
• Manage the classroom environment effectively.
• Instruct students clearly on learning goals, using appropriate techniques.
• Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including technology, to enhance student learning and confidence.
• Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement.
• Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.
• Collaborate with Special Education and English Language Learner (ELL) specialists to meet the specific needs of particular students.
• Prepare students for MCAS.
• Understand the school philosophy and structure of school teams.
• Maintain data and documentation as appropriate.
• Participate in school-wide professional development and seek continuous feedback and coaching to develop as a teacher.

Qualifications

• Required Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher; Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English Language Learners (ESL) 5-12; Valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement OR Grade-level appropriate ESL License; Fully licensed and Highly Qualified according to state and federal guidelines; Authorization to work in the United States.
• PREFERRED: Experience in urban, high-poverty, and/or turnaround schools; Major/minor in specific teaching content area; Additional certification in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities and/or English Language Learners (ESL); Demonstrated experience in English Language Development (ELD) and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) strategies; Bilingual language proficiency (Spanish/English) preferred.
