About the Role
Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School is seeking a dedicated and culturally responsive English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher to join our instructional team. The ESL Teacher will provide language instruction, support, and advocacy for English Learners (ELs) to ensure their academic success and full participation in the school community. This teacher will collaborate with colleagues to adapt instruction, monitor progress, and create an inclusive learning environment that celebrates linguistic and cultural diversity.
Responsibilities
- Instruction & Student Support
- Develop and implement ESL lessons aligned to PA English Language Development (ELD) Standards and school curriculum
- Provide direct instruction to EL students in reading, writing, listening, and speaking
- Support EL students in accessing grade-level content through scaffolding, vocabulary development, and language support strategies
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of ELs at varying proficiency levels
- Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with classroom teachers to modify lessons, adapt materials, and integrate language objectives into core subjects
- Provide strategies and resources to general education teachers for supporting EL students
- Participate in co-teaching and push-in/pull-out models of instruction as appropriate
- Assessment & Compliance
- Administer and score required English proficiency assessments (e.g., WIDA ACCESS, WAPT, or other state-mandated tools)
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including EL plans and progress monitoring data
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding EL instruction and services
- Family & Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians of EL students, including providing translated materials or interpreter services as needed
- Facilitate family engagement activities that support language development and cultural inclusion
- Serve as an advocate for EL students and their families within the school community
- Professional Growth
- Participate in professional development related to ESL best practices, instructional strategies, and compliance requirements
- Stay informed on current trends, research, and policy in the field of English language education
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (Master's preferred)
- Valid Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate
- Experience working with English Learners in a K-12 setting preferred
- Strong knowledge of second language acquisition, ESL strategies, and culturally responsive pedagogy
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Commitment to the mission and vision of Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School
- Clearances: FBI fingerprints, PA state background check, child abuse history clearance, and a physical examination
