ESL Instructor Pool-Part-Time
Job Description
Cypress College is accepting applications for Part-time ESL Instructor positions. The purpose of this posting is to create a pool of qualified applicants to fill part-time assignments on an as-needed basis. When the need to fill arises, the department will refer to this pool of part-time faculty.
Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) courses at Cypress College. Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment and allocation of duties in accordance with operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis or education with a TESL emphasis
- Bachelor’s in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate
- Master’s in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech or any foreign language
- The equivalent
- Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District

Desirable Qualifications
- Recent lower division or community college teaching experience
- Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods
- Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles
- Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Experience with teaching and mentoring historically and socially minoritized/marginalized communities such as African-American/Black, Chicanx/Latinx, Pacific Islander, Native American, women, LGBTQIA+, and people with disabilities
