About the role
The ESH claims specialist tracks every incident on Layton project sites or involving Layton Construction employees through closure. In addition to filing insurance claims, the specialist collects all incident documentation, tracks “Good Catch / Close Call” reports, and assists safety professionals with CAP trade partner input into the system.
Responsibilities
- Review incident investigation report (IIR) reports for completeness and timeliness.
- Enter information into database systems and third-party platforms for insurance claims.
- Determine if incidents should be handled in-house or by the insurance carrier using established claims protocol.
- Maintain communication with the Claims Team, Safety Managers, Supervisors, and Associates.
- Request and review injured worker medical status reports.
- Communicate significant changes, problems, or concerns to Insurance Claims Managers.
- Coordinate and participate in open claim reviews.
- Provide monthly and quarterly claims status reports.
- Work closely with representatives from third-party administrators.
- Assist employees in promptly returning to regular duties after injury.
- Track monthly, quarterly, and yearly safety reports.
- Track employee safety man hours.
- Submit worker compensation claims.
- Coordinate safety committee meetings.
- Track equipment certifications and employee injuries.
- Schedule Safety department travel.
- Coordinate with safety managers to improve project paperwork quality.
- Administer safety orientation for new hires.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma (college degree preferred).
- Workers’ compensation claim experience or insurance adjusting experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents (e.g., accident forms, medical/legal documents).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with Safety Team members and upper management.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in database software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, CMIC).
- Common-sense decision-making for everyday challenges.
- Ability to operate office equipment (computer, printer, copier, fax, telephone).
- Ability to perform duties efficiently, accurately, and safely with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
- Construction industry experience preferred.
- Post-high school administrative assistant training and/or insurance claims experience preferred.
